Congrats to the Mayo Senior team who qualified for their 5th consecutive All-Ireland Semi-Final following their deserved 2-13 to 0-11 win over Donegal in Croke Park on Saturday evening. They now take on the highly rated Dublin team where the atmosphere for this game has always been fantastic over the recent years and Sunday August 30th will no doubt be another occasion. Again the O'Connor brothers were central to the win with Cillian adding 3 scores with 2 from frees while Diarmuid put in another energy sapping performance from wing forward where he provided an ideal outlet for both 'keepers David Clarke and Robbie Hennelly as well. Alan Dillon was not introduced but no doubt he will get game time at the end of the month. Keep it going boys !!

Congrats to Ballintubber ace Damien McGing who starred in the Mayo Junior teams All-Ireland Semi-Final triumph over Kilkenny last weekend! Further details will be confirmed next weekend!!

It was another historic day for the Mayo Senior team when they added their 46th Connacht title and and completed a 5 in-a-row of Nestor cups on Sunday following their demolition of Sligo. Ballintubber clubmen had a big say in the outcome where all 3 were on the scoreboard with corner-forward Cillian O'Connor scoring 1-6 where his opening goal set the tone while his place-taking was spot on. His young brother Diarmuid who lined out at right-half-forward also had an excellent game where he chipped in with 0-4 from play with Alan Dillon introduced at half-time and he managed to add a fine score before the end and collect a remarkable 8th medal. Also involved in the Mayo set-up was Ruaidhri Hallinan as stats man where Mayo will play their All-Ireland Quarter-Final game on Saturday August 8th with further details to follow!! Well done to all!!

Ballintubber B 0-12 0-7 Lahardane McHales

Congrats to our Junior team & Management following their vital win in sunny Clogher on Saturday evening when withstanding a late surge from Lahardane McHales. The win sees them through to the last 8 of the Junior A Championship which is a fine achievement where an excellent opening 20 minutes was the conerstone to the win. During this spell the Abbeysiders raced into a 5 points lead with scores coming from the impressive Conor Finnerty (2) along with midfielder Dean Loftus, however the star of the show in the first half was 17 year old Stephen O'Malley who ended the half with a return of 0-4. In fact the hosts led 0-8 to 0-3 at the break although they had to deal with a black card shown to Conor Finnerty while the visitors also missed a penalty with the experienced Tommy Kilcoyne also on the scoresheet. The second half saw the North Mayo side eventually get a stranglehold of the game, however early points from Stephen O'Malley (f) and substiture James McGing left the score 0-10 to 0-3 5 minutes into the second half. Driven on by substitute Barry Leonard from full-back the visitors kicked 0-4 in a row and even cracked a shot against the crossbar in the closing minutes to almost get their way back in to the match. However a crucial score from Stephen Finnerty was added to by substitute Eoin Heneghan guided the 'Tubber boys into the knockout stages. There were many top performances on the evening but the strength and workrate by midfielder Michael Hoban was so central to the win on the evening. Quarter-Final draw to take place in the coming weeks!!

It was a mixed weekend for our teams where on Saturday evening our Junior team got a bit of a thrashing in the opening round of the County Junior A Championship when one of the favourites Ardnaree Sarsfields enjoyed their visit to Clogher in the 5-18 to 0-4 win. They don't have much time to recover as next Saturday evening they travel to Charlestown for a 6pm start where the homesides second string provided a opening day shock by overcoming Lahardane McHales. While on Sunday our Senior team made it 3 wins out of 4 in the Division 1A league when they were much too good for Knockmore on a final score of €1-18 to 1-6 to go up to joint second in the rankings.
