Congrats to Diarmuid O'Connor who made history by being part of the DCU team that claimed Sigerson Cup honours in Cork over the weekend!! He unfortunately got injured early in the second half of the final during the 1-14 to 2-10 extra-time win over holders UCC but his workrate and energy made him a crucial part of the success. Well done Diarmuid as you may have become the first person from the Club to win the ultimate honour in 3rd level football!!

Other titles won included the Division 1A League title, the Michael Walsh Senior League title as well as the Kelly Cup! They have also qualified for the final of the County Cup with fixture details to be confirmed! Next Sunday they are out again at 2pm in Ballina against IT Sligo!
The holy season of Christmas and the freshness of a New Year are with us. We can look back with relish at a truly historic 2014. Ballintubber Senior team’s performances are a tremendous reflection on the Club and Parish. In official Competition the record shows we played 32 matches, we won 29; we drew 1 and lost just 2, a most splendid achievement. Another County Senior football Championship win, our 3rd in five years silenced the doubters and a splendid victory over the 2012 All Ireland Champions St Bridget’s in the Connacht Club semi- heralded we are now a serious force in provincial club terms. Our loyal and well-bonded 32 man senior panel and their dedicated management team of 2014 are deserving of the highest plaudits for the magnificent season just past.
We are very proud of our players – a splendid bunch of young men – who have earned the deserved admiration and respect of all within the Parish and many around the County and beyond. Their contribution to all facets of Club activity is highly commendable.
To the Senior Team management, my fellow Club Officers & Executive, our generous sponsors, parents who catered for the players, Bord na nÓg U 21 and Junior “A” coaches, our pitch grounds men, those who support and run the lotto, Gold Patron Scheme and Benefactor members and our “Strictly Dancers” I extend to you a most warm thanks and appreciation and best wishes for 2015.
Be assured we will plan for the future and deal constructively with the challenges that lie ahead in 2015 and beyond. We will evaluate debate and adjust the template for ongoing success. On Saturday night, January 24th 2015 in Breaffy House we will amply celebrate the historic season just past. For now we wish all our people and supporters at home and around the globe a very happy Christmas and every success and robust good health in 2015.

This Saturday evening our Under 21 team take to the Semi-Final stage of the A Championship for the first time since 2010 when they take on Claremorris at 6pm in McHale Park! After a difficult week following our Senior teams Connacht Club Final defeat, the Abbeysiders will be keen to get back to winning ways and lift the spirits but the South Mayo side will obviously have other ideas. With Senior stars Diarmuid O'Connor, Michael Plunkett and Captain Brian Murphy leading the way, the boys from the 'tubber will be hoping to reach their first final in 4 years and extend out the season in to December which interestingly was when the last title was won at this level back in 2009. Best wishes to all involved and please show your support to the boys in red which is always greatly appreciated by the players!!
Our Senior teams Championship campaign ended disappointingly following a 2-13 to 1-7 defeat to a more season Corofin side in the final of the Connacht Club Championship in McHale Park on Sunday. The Galway side dominated for most of the game and while their half-time lead of 0-7 to 0-4 was still manageable for the Abbeysiders, two quick goals early in the second half put the game to bed. Despite the promptings of Alan Dillon who scored his sides only goal along with the youthful Diarmuid O'Connor along with his older brother Cillian, the boys of the 'tubber were never able to challenge the All-Ireland Club favourites who certainly endorsed the billing. However it has been a remarkably successful season with so much to look back on, the highlight being the Championship and League double as well as a raft of other competitions won. The age profile of the team is still quite young and the experience learned yesterday should help bring this team on. Thanks for the memories boys!!
Well done to our Under 21 team and Management who carved out a fine win in knocking out holders Bohola Moy-Davitts at the Quarter-Final stage on Saturday evening ! The Abbeysiders were deserving 1-10 to 1-6 winners on the evening in Mulvey Park with the goal credited to Eoin Heneghan after a long pass to full-forward David McHale found its way into the back of the Bohola Moy-Davitts net. Next up will be Claremorris with fixture details to be confirmed!!
Congrats to our Senior team who knocked St. Brigid's out of the Connacht Club Championship following a highly entertaining win in McHale Park on Sunday . On Sunday week they take on the might of Corofin in the Connacht Club final also in McHale Park where the boys of the 'tubber will have to do it all again and maybe more against the team who beat them in 2011 at the Semi-Final stage. Check Match Reports for all the details on todays game!!
